The inauguration of the Brazil Pavilion at PDAC brings together a Brazilian delegation from the mineral industry

The inauguration of the Brazil Pavilion at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) 2024 marked the beginning of a crucial event for the international mining sector. With the presence of a Brazilian delegation composed of representatives from companies, government entities, and industry professionals, interest in Brazil was notably evident, especially concerning minerals essential for the energy transition.

PDAC 2024, held in Toronto, Canada, brought forth crucial discussions on Sustainability, Inclusion, Capital Markets, and particularly Critical Minerals.

The opening ceremony saw the participation of representatives from Indigenous peoples (First Nations), emphasizing the importance of dialogue in the responsible conduct of mining, with inclusive benefits for all involved communities.

Brazil’s presence at PDAC 2024 was highlighted by the Brazil-Canada Mining Brunch and the inauguration of the Brazil Pavilion, both events attended by governmental representatives and private sector stakeholders. Interest in Brazil was notable, especially concerning minerals essential for the energy transition, such as lithium and rare earth elements.

Brazil at PDAC 2024: Highlighting Critical Minerals and International Cooperation

Highlighting the relevance of critical minerals, the Canadian government announced significant measures to boost this sector, including tax incentives and substantial investments in technology and innovation.

Additionally, during the event, a framework agreement of cooperation was signed between the Geological Survey of Brazil (SGB) and the British Geological Survey (BGS), aiming to boost mineral research projects, focusing on critical minerals and other strategic resources.

The highlight of the second edition of the publication titled “An Overview of Critical and Strategic Minerals Potential of Brazil – Uma Visão Geral do Potencial de Minerais Críticos do Brasil” during PDAC 2024 further reinforced Brazil’s potential in this sector.

Prepared by geoscience experts from SGB, this publication highlights Brazil’s potential for producing minerals classified as strategic for the country, including aluminum, copper, chromium, gold, graphite, lithium minerals, nickel, phosphate, platinum, potassium, Rare Earth Elements, tungsten, uranium, and zinc.

Valdir Silveira, Director of Geology and Mineral Resources at SGB, spoke about the importance of consolidated geoscientific information, which demonstrates Brazil’s potential to be a major producer of minerals crucial for the energy transition and food security:

These data are crucial for the productive sector and for the formulation of public policies, as it facilitates the strategic planning of a global supply chain for critical minerals and encompasses maps with the exact location of mineral deposits,” he stated.

SGB researcher Sulsiane Souza Gaia emphasizes that PDAC represents the largest global convention on mineral research, mining, and project development. She also emphasized:

In this edition, we highlight Brazil’s potential in critical minerals for energy transition and food security, presenting detailed data and reaffirming Brazil’s leadership position in the international panorama of critical minerals.”

The document also provides details on mineral deposits, available resources, and geological potential of a given Mineral Province, directing this information to industry professionals and investors, strengthening the attraction of investments to the Brazilian mineral sector.

Brazil’s presence at PDAC 2024 reaffirms the country’s commitment to promoting a responsible and sustainable mining sector, aligned with global best practices and the needs of energy transition and economic development.
