The Mining Registry (Cadastro Mineiro) is the National Mining Agency (ANM) system that gathers data on mining tenements. Titleholders, consultants, geologists and lawyers use it every day, as does anyone evaluating a mineral right before buying, assigning or investing. Consultation is public: the system asks only for the verification code shown on the screen. The home page recommends using Internet Explorer and warns that other browsers may cause compatibility errors.
In this article, we explain what each piece of information on the tenement screen tells you, and what the system does not show.
How to Find a Tenement
There are two ways to search. In the first, you enter the tenement number and the code shown on the screen. In the second, the search function filters by municipality, substance, phase, titleholder, title type and other criteria, and the “Situação” (status) field defaults to “Somente Ativos” (active only).
What the Screen Shows
Phase and status: the current phase, whether the tenement is active, and the responsible Regional Management.
Who is linked to the tenement: titleholders and applicants, with the start and end dates of each relationship and the lease term, where applicable.
Titles: number, type, status (for example, extended or granted), and publication and expiration dates.
Substance and use: substance, type of use, and start and end dates.
Location: state, municipality, filing unit and area in hectares.
Dates: filing and priority dates.
The “Poligonal” tab shows a map of the area, with layers for active tenements and for municipal and state boundaries. It also gives the datum (SIRGAS2000), the vertices in latitude and longitude, and the tie point.
What the Mining Registry Does Not Show
It gathers the tenement data, but not the procedural history or the documents. For those, use the “Acesso SEI” link on the basic data screen, which leads to the Electronic Information System (SEI). A Word of Caution
The screen itself states that the service is for informational purposes only and does not replace the official instruments required to produce legal effects.
