The Brazilian Association of Mineral Research and Mining Companies – ABPM, will promote the Symposium of Gold – Brazil 2022 and the Amazon Mining Fair to be held in Belém – PA on August 23-25.

The Symposium of Gold – Brazil 2022 will bring executives from the country’s major gold mining companies, governments, experts and professionals who work in the gold production chain together to discuss regulatory, technological, environmental, governance initiatives, exchange experiences and business opportunities.

Gold Trading in Brazil

Gold is considered one of the safest financial assets in the world economy, backing the monetary reserve of several countries, being considered a store of value and a safe haven in times of crisis and financial instability.

And Brazil, which has one of the largest gold reserves in the world, can become a global player if it can organize its production and implement international standards.

According to data from the Agência Nacional de Mineração (ANM), in 2021, the value of the metal’s production in the country reached R$24 billion, which represents approximately 7% of the Brazilian mineral sector’s production.

And, according to experts, the trend is that in the coming years, with new investments in research, new mines and refineries in operation, this value can increase and contribute to the economy, generating new jobs, revenues for states and municipalities and regional development.

Socio-environmental Challenge

However, the biggest challenge for the country is to assure high Environmental, Social and Governance – ESG standards throughout the gold chain, which goes from production and refining to trading, which today suffers from international distrust, caused by illicit activities, especially in the North region, which has great potential, but suffers from such illegalities.

The growth of small and medium mining is a worldwide trend. And ABPM has been a spokesperson for this mining segment in Brazil, promoting a transparent dialogue with several players. We understand that the gold sector in Brazil needs a special look

, explains Luís Maurício Azevedo, President of ABPM.

According to Azevedo, it is necessary to discuss responsible business practices throughout the entire gold supply chain, and the event will be an opportunity to do so, discussing investments in research, discovery of new deposits, opening of new mines, in addition to cases of companies that operate in a responsible manner.

Event Venue

The place chosen to host the event was the state of Pará, one of the largest gold producers in the country, along with Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Bahia and Goiás.

The Gold Symposium will be an opportunity for companies associations and entities related to the Brazilian gold activity can bring contributions to the creation of pillars committed to governance practices and compliance throughout the production chain of gold in the country

Maurício Gaioti, president of North Star, a company specialized in refining precious metals, which will inaugurate in the second semester, in Belém, a modern refining unit with capacity to process 24 tons/year, and gradually increase its market share.

Gaioti believes that the event will be an opportunity for people and entities committed to the legality of gold production in the country, which involves social, environmental, and economic issues, to show that this segment cannot be confused with illegal activities that have been occurring in the country.

“It is a great opportunity for us to show the high level of investment, rigorous procedures, and expertise that the country has in gold production,” says Gaioti.

Promoted by ABPM, the Symposium of Gold – Brazil 2022 and the Amazon Mining Fair have the support of several government institutions, business entities and companies operating in the mineral sector.
