The Geological Survey of Brazil Temporarily Suspends Mineral Asset Auctions

Mineral asset auctions, scheduled for the upcoming 23rd in Brasilia, have been temporarily suspended. The Brazilian Geological Survey (SGB) and the Mineral Resources Research Company (CPRM), entities linked to the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), jointly announced the decision.

The measure aims to provide interested companies with an extended period for better technical preparation and participation in the bidding process, stated the SGB Communication Center.

The auctions encompassed areas rich in minerals such as gold, diamonds, phosphate, kaolin, and agrominerals, spread across the states of Tocantins, Pará, Bahia, Paraíba, and Pernambuco.

The temporary suspension of the auctions was officially announced through Suspension Notices published in the Official Gazette of the Union, referring to Auctions No. 1/2023, 2/2023, 3/2023, 4/2023, and 5/2023 by CPRM.

The Special Bidding Commission (CEL) is dedicated to defining new dates for these events, which will be communicated through the official channels of SGB, CPRM, and the Official Gazette of the Union.

Previously, Bidding Notices No. 1/2023 – CPRM had already been published, revealing the offer of 27 areas for the prospecting of gold, diamonds, and agrominerals in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil.

These areas were discovered in past decades by the Brazilian Geological Survey in the states of Pará, Tocantins, Pernambuco, and Bahia, including phosphate and kaolin among the present minerals.

Projects such as Agrominerals Aveiro in Pará, Gold of Natividade in Tocantins, Santo Inácio Diamond in Bahia, Miriri Phosphate in Paraíba and Pernambuco, and the Kaolin Project in Rio Capim in Pará are among the focuses of these auctions.

The mineral deposits in these projects vary, with some estimating significant resources, such as the 500 million tons of limestone in Agrominerals Aveiro.

The Public Auction Session was originally scheduled for October and, following the temporary suspension, the redefined date will be widely announced to ensure full participation of interested companies. These events represent essential opportunities for the expansion and strengthening of the mining sector in Brazil, and it is expected that the new auction dates will be announced soon.
