Based on preliminary data from the Agência Nacional de Mineração – ANM (National Mining Agency), as a result of the collection of CFEM (Financial Contribution for Mineral Exploration), the Brazilian mineral production reached the value of R$ 250 billion in 2022, a drop of approximately 26% compared to what was produced in the year 2021, which was R$ 339 billion, a national historic mark.
Iron ore, with R$ 153.5 billion, led production, followed by gold (R$ 23.9 billion), copper (R$ 15.2 billion), dolomitic limestone (R$ 8.55 billion) and bauxite (R$ 5.66 billion).
The drop in the value of production is mainly due to lower prices for iron ore, which accounts for more than 60% of the value of Brazil’s mineral production.
In contrast to 2021, the state of Minas Gerais took the lead in the value of mineral production, with R$100.5 billion, while Pará, which had led production the previous year, placed second, with R$92.3 billion.
The list of the five largest producing states also includes Bahia (with R$10.1 billion), Goiás (R$9.04 billion) and São Paulo (R$7.8 billion).
Decrease in CFEM collection
As a result of the reduction in the value of the mineral production, the collection of CFEM also decreased, reaching R$ 7.018 billion in 2022, against R$ 10.3 billion in 2021, a drop of a little more than 30%.
The Parauapebas (R$ 1.385 billion) and Canaã dos Carajás (R$ 1.060 billion) municipalities led the collection, followed by the mining municipalities of Conceição do Mato Dentro (R$ 391.8 million), Itabirito (R$ 317.6 million) and Mariana (R$ 299.0 million).
